A former Geneva police officer who admitted to selling drugs while on duty has been sentenced.
Michael Tapscott pleaded guilty in February to a total of 40 counts against him, including criminal sale of a controlled substance, official misconduct and petit larceny, according to Wayne County District Attorney Christine Callanan’s Office.
Investigators say Tapscott sold Adderall prescribed to him to people in the community and sought out prescription painkillers like Vicodin.

On Thursday, Tapscott was sentenced to 16 weekends in jail and five years of probation, the DA’s office says. His jail sentence begins on Friday.
“This case involved a serious breach of the public trust by someone sworn to uphold the law,” said Callanan in a statement. “Michael Tapscott’s actions damaged confidence in law enforcement and diminished the integrity of the badge he once carried. Today’s sentence reflects the principle that no individual is above the law, regardless of position or profession.”
Tapscott resigned from the police department last year following his arrest.
