NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – First responders were on the scene of a fire at a convenience store in New Bern overnight.
New Bern Fire-Rescue was called to the Five Star convenience store at 2709 Neuse Boulevard around 3:15 this morning.
When crews got there, they saw heavy smoke coming from the building.
Firefighters went inside the store, where they saw more smoke and fire coming from the ceiling and roof.
Crews ventilated the store and were able to extinguish the fire in about one hour.
Officials say the store was vacant at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
An investigation found that the fire started in a beverage cooler inside the store, according to officials.
West New Bern Fire Department assisted in the firefighting efforts.
