NEWBERN, N.C. (WNCT) — The New Bern Fire-Rescue responded to a fire at the Five Star convenience store, which was caused by a beverage cooler.

At 3:13 a.m. on June 2, New Bern Fire- Rescue was dispatched to a fire at the Five Star convenience store. located at 2709 Neuse Boulevard.

Upon Arrival, crews saw heavy smoke coming from the building. After gaining entry into the store, they found smoke overhead, coming from the ceiling and roof area. The store was vacant at the time.

Once crews ventilated the structure, it took approximately 30 minutes to knock down the bulk of the fire and keep it from spreading. The fire was extinguished in about one hour.

Crews conducted an investigation and found the fire originated from a beverage cooler inside the store.

The West New Bern Fire Department provided mutual aid. There were no injuries reported.
