Switzerland’s foreign ministry said on Tuesday that a US-Iran agreement aimed at ending the West Asia war will be formally signed at the Burgenstock resort overlooking Lake Lucerne on Friday.
Tehran and Washington announced on Sunday that they had agreed to a memorandum of understanding intended to end the conflict, which began on February 28 with US-Israeli strikes on Iran and later spread across the region.
“At this stage, the signing is scheduled for Friday, June 19, at Burgenstock,” AFP quoted Switzerland’s foreign ministry as saying in a statement.

The luxury resort, located high above Lake Lucerne in central Switzerland, was selected because of its secure and secluded setting.
According to the ministry, the venue “was proposed by the Pakistani and Qatari mediators, as well as by the US and Iran”.
“Switzerland is acting as a facilitator in this process, creating the practical and diplomatic conditions necessary for this meeting to take place on Swiss territory.”
The signing comes after weeks of difficult negotiations and repeated threats of renewed fighting between the two sides.
A senior US official said the framework agreement has already been signed electronically by US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Iran’s deputy foreign minister Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who served as Tehran’s chief negotiator during the talks.
However, the contents of the agreement have not been released publicly, leaving uncertainty over the specific commitments made by both sides after months of negotiations.
The talks were marked by sharp disagreements over Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief and the future of the Strait of Hormuz.
But Vance downplayed expectations of a detailed accord, telling CNN that it was “about a page and a half, so it is a very general document”.
