Wife of Geneva County commissioner charged after alleged gun incident at softball game

  • 2026-06-16

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WTVY) – The wife of a Geneva County commissioner was charged after an incident in which she allegedly pulled a gun on another woman and her two children at a youth softball tournament game in Panama City Beach.

Records from Monday show April Wilks, 46 of Geneva, was booked into the Bay County Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and improper exhibition of a firearm or dangerous weapon. The aggravated assault charge is a third-degree felony in Florida; improper exhibition is a first-degree misdemeanor.

PCB police said officers were called to Frank Brown Park at around 6:49 p.m. on June 6. A woman from Perry, Florida, told police she and her children were walking in the parking lot at the sports complex when another woman, later identified as Wilks, approached and began yelling at her, the report said.

The victim told police a disagreement had earlier developed during a game over calls made on the field, but she believed the issue had ended, according to the report. The argument escalated in the parking lot and Wilks pulled a black-and-silver revolver and pointed it at the victim and her children, police said.

The victim and her children left the area and called 911, and Wilks was seen driving away, according to the report.

Officers later spoke with Bart Wilks, the Geneva County District 3 commissioner, who was at the ballpark with his wife and child, police said. He told officers his wife had left to get food and was on her way back, the report said. After 30 minutes of her not arriving back to the sports complex, police and Mr. Wilks tried to reach Mrs. Wilks by phone, but she did not answer, although she had previously been told in a separate call earlier she was needed for the investigation, according to the report.

It was not immediately clear whether Wilks was arrested or turned herself in. She was booked in the Bay County Jail and posted a $6,000 bond.
