ABB to Acquire Hoglund AS: Marine Automation Deal Set for Q3 2026 - News and Statistics

ABB has entered into an agreement to acquire Hoglund AS, a marine automation company based in Norway, according to a statement from the firm. The acquisition is intended to broaden ABB’s automation capabilities for the maritime industry.

Hoglund, headquartered in Tonsberg, specializes in integrated automation systems for contemporary vessels, encompassing onboard automation, monitoring, and control functions. Its technology is deployed on more than 600 ships globally.

The transaction is anticipated to conclude in the third quarter of 2026, pending standard regulatory approvals. The financial terms of the deal have not been made public.

Currently owned by Eitzen Group, Hoglund has a workforce exceeding 80 individuals located in Norway, Poland, Romania, and China. After the deal is finalized, the company will be incorporated into ABB’s Marine & Ports division.

Hoglund’s Integrated Automation System is built on ABB’s 800M and S800 control system hardware platform. This system aggregates data from engines, power generators, and cargo systems to enhance vessel safety, energy efficiency, and operational performance.

The company reported revenues of nearly EUR30 million for the year 2025.

Peter Morsbach, Chief Executive Officer of Hoglund, described the acquisition as a significant new chapter for the company’s personnel and technologies. He noted that Hoglund’s history reflects dedication and passion for the marine industry, and expressed pride in the expertise and solutions the company has developed. Morsbach also stated that since Hoglund’s system is based on ABB technology, the company looks forward to joining ABB and continuing to advance marine automation for customers.

Rune Braastad, President of ABB’s Marine & Ports division, indicated that Hoglund’s portfolio will complement ABB’s existing marine automation offering with proven and scalable solutions. He added that combining this with ABB’s global reach and service capabilities creates a strong foundation for continued success, and expressed anticipation for welcoming Hoglund’s highly competent employees to ABB.
