So many dogs love the car, and when they’re heading to one of their favorite places? That’s an extra sweet deal.

Riggs, a sweet Greater Swiss Mountain Dog in New England, is a huge fan of going to Grandpa’s to go swimming. On a recent trip, Riggs was so amped for the journey he leapt into the car before his mom could even open the door.

Jumping skills? 10 out of 10. Excitement? Absolutely umatched.

In the video, captioned “POV: You’re waiting on mom,” Riggs can be seen bounding through the front seat window of the car, pumped to get going on his way to Grandpa’s for a dip. While Riggs’ mom admits she wasn’t thrilled with his methods, she concedes that his jump was pretty impressive.

Here’s hoping they made it to the swim date in one piece!

A Greater Swiss Mountain Dog’s Temperament

Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs, also known affectionately as a “Swissy” or a “GSMD” are gorgeous worker dogs that were originally bred in the Swiss Alps. Because of their size and stature, some even call them a “poor man’s horse.” While they’re a popular breed, they’re slightly less well known than others like a Bernese Mountain Dog, for example.

As a breed, Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs are very enthusiastic, happy dogs who are very attached to their people and families. While they have been bred to be working dogs, GSMDs are actually relatively calm, mellow, and non-reactive. These dogs are very much “Velcro pets” who love being around their people.

From a training perspective, a Swissy can be on the stubborn side and a bit difficult to train. They need (and want!) a fair amount of exercise and love a task or a sanctioned activity. Consistency and routine are great things for these dogs and help them thrive.

Another thing to consider if you’re curious about what it might be like to have a Swissy in your life is they have a pretty impressive vertical. Always something to consider, especially if you leave the windows of your car down.
