Ulju County in Ulsan will distribute commemorative medals to 30,000 people who successfully completed the “2026 Yeongnam Alps Full-Climb Certification Program,” the county said Thursday.
This year’s commemorative medals were produced directly by KOMSCO (Korea Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operating Corp.) with a theme centered on Mount Goheon, one of the renowned peaks of the Yeongnam Alps. The front of the medal depicts the ridgeline of Mount Goheon set against a winter snowscape, while the back precisely renders the summit marker and stone tower, enhancing both its artistic value and appeal as a collectible.
Medals can be received in two ways—on-site visit and postal delivery—adding convenience.
Those wishing to pick up medals in person must pre-book a pickup date through the “Yeongnam Alps Full-Climb Certification” application from July 11 to December 31. They can then visit the Yeongnam Alps Full-Climb Certification Center in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju County, on the designated date with identification. The center operates on weekdays and weekends (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), except on Mondays and Wednesdays.
For climbers who find it difficult to visit in person or who live in other regions, a cash-on-delivery postal service through the app will also be introduced from September 3.
Climbers of the seven peaks who were not included among the first-come 30,000 medal recipients can also find consolation. Ulju County plans to allow climbers who did not receive medals to separately purchase commemorative medals through KOMSCO’s online shopping mall during December. In addition, regardless of whether climbers receive a medal, climb certification and mobile certificate issuance will proceed normally until November 30.
“We hope this commemorative medal, embodying KOMSCO’s technical expertise, will be a meaningful gift that allows climbers to cherish the sense of achievement from conquering the Yeongnam Alps for a long time,” an Ulju County official said. “We will continue to expand diverse content that maximizes the tourism appeal of the Yeongnam Alps and revitalizes the local economy.”
