LAKE GENEVA, Wis. — Three children died and six more people, including another child, were rescued after severe weather caused a boat to capsize in Lake Geneva.
Rescue crews responded during the afternoon of July 3 after sudden storms moved through Walworth County, producing hazardous boating conditions.
City of Lake Geneva Police say a privately owned recreational motorboat carrying six adults and 4 children took on water, overturned, and sank.
All six adults and one child were rescued from the water, but after an intense search, first responders located and recovered three children from the lake.
Despite life-saving measures at the scene and medical efforts at the hospital, all three children died.
Law enforcement confirmed that all four children were wearing life jackets.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Geneva Lake Law Enforcement Agency are conducting a joint investigation into the incident.
The names of the children who died have not been released.
