NIAGARA FALLS — After their game against the Auburn Doubledays on Independence Day was suspended, the Geneva Red Wings were still looking to continue their winning ways on Sunday in a doubleheader against the Niagara Falls Americans.
The Red Wings claimed a third consecutive victory by defeating the Americans 6-4 in seven innings in the first game of the twinbill on Sunday afternoon in Niagara Falls.
During the second game of the doubleheader, Geneva extended their winning streak to four straight wins by beating Niagara Falls 10-0 in six innings.
The win allowed the Red Wings to continue their great momentum of late while the Americans’ recent struggles continue.
1ST GAME
Max Lipton earned the win in relief for Geneva (10-13) with two innings of work. Lipton struck out three batters in those two innings.
Mitchell Canuel suffered the loss for Niagara Falls (9-17) in a complete game outing.
Center fielder Dylan Briggs went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Red Wings while teammate CJ Orrego collected two hits and drove in two runs.
Orrego’s two-run triple in the top of the third inning gave Geneva a 5-0 lead at the time.
Tyler Arno started the game on the mound for the Red Wings. The Geneva High School graduate threw 3.1 innings and struck out seven batters.
2ND GAME
Waterloo High School graduate Casey Burcroff picked up the win in relief for the Red Wings after throwing two innings of perfect baseball.
Burcroff and teammate Nolan Hudson combined for a five-inning no-hitter as the two combined for six total strikeouts recorded.
After Hudson, who punched out four batters, tossed three innings of scoreless baseball, Burcroff finished the shutout performance.
Designated hitter Seiji Tamura went 2-for-2 with four runs batted in for Geneva at the plate.
Jaxsyn Moritz suffered the loss for the Americans after throwing two innings.
Geneva will return to action on Monday for a home doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. against the Olean Oilers at McDonough Park.

NEWARK — The Newark Pilots (4-17) were supposed to play a doubleheader against the Olean Oilers (10-14) on Sunday afternoon.
But, the first game of the doubleheader was suspended in the third inning while Olean had a 1-0 lead at the time.
The second game was postponed as the Pilots will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to play the Jamestown Tarp Skunks at 6:30 p.m. at Diethrick Park.
