MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A fundraiser has been organized in honor of two children who died in a Lake Geneva boating accident.
The GoFundMe stated that brother and sister Caleb, 6, and Abigail, 7, Oswald died after the boat capsized July 3 on Geneva Lake.
According to the organizer of the fundraiser, all money raised will go toward supporting a children’s charity in Caleb and Abigail’s memory.
“Caleb and Abigail were more than brother and sister—they were best friends,” the organizer wrote. “They filled our home with laughter, music, hugs, and endless love.”
As of 11 a.m., the GoFundMe has raised more than $35,000.
Geneva Lake Law Enforcement Agency received multiple emergency calls on Friday, July 3, about boats capsizing and people in the water as a storm with winds estimated up to 100 mph tore through the area.
A total of 10 people, including four children, were on the boat. All children on board had proper life jackets on.
First responders rescued six adults and one child before being alerted to three children still being missing. Officials reported three children– a 6-year-old boy, a 7-year-old girl and a 10-year-old girl- had died.
The group included people from Fontana, as well as Batavia and Wheaton, Illinois.
A spokesperson for Wheaton-based Community Unit School District 200 confirmed to NBC Chicago on Tuesday that children who died attended school within the district.
“On behalf of Community Unit School District 200, our deepest condolences are with the family and friends of the children who died in a tragic boating incident in Lake Geneva on July 3,” the spokesperson said. “We ask that you join us in supporting these families during this difficult time, and keep them in your thoughts as we all cope with this incredible loss.”
