A traumatic brain injury conference will take place next week at Columbia University’s Kraft Center, bringing together medical and academic groups to discuss research and patient experiences.

National concussion awareness advocate and Geneva resident Ray Ciancaglini will serve as one of three keynote speakers at the event hosted by Columbia Synapse slated for March 27.

The conference, titled “Crossroads in Traumatic Brain Injury,” will include participants from institutions such as New York University and Rutgers University, along with student organizations from several universities.

Organizers said the event will focus on prevention, care and support for people affected by traumatic brain injury, while also highlighting the experiences of survivors.

Ciancaglini’s keynote, “From Punches to Prevention,” will address second impact syndrome and long-term neurological conditions, including Parkinson’s disease and dementia. His talk will also focus on resilience and lifestyle factors for patients and caregivers.

“This conference represents an important opportunity to connect lived experience with cutting-edge research,” said Ciancaglini. “By sharing knowledge and personal stories, we can help prevent future injuries and improve the quality of life for those already affected.”

The event will include panel discussions, networking opportunities and both in-person and virtual attendance options.

Ciancaglini is also scheduled to hold a book signing following his keynote.
