At approximately 7:24am today, the New Bern Police Department responded to a reported armed robbery at Broad Street Laundry, located at 905 Broad Street. Officers arrived within minutes of the initial call and obtained information identifying the suspect, who fled the scene on foot after stealing money from an employee.

Approximately 15 minutes later, officers located an individual in the Craven Terrace area who matched the suspect’s description. The man was identified as Michael Jenkins, 57, of Vanceboro. Through investigative efforts, officers determined that Jenkins was responsible for the robbery. Although Jenkins was unarmed at the time of his arrest, officers recovered money in his possession that matched the denominations reported stolen from Broad Street Laundry.

Jenkins was charged with:

• Common law robbery

• Assault on a female

Jenkins was brought before a magistrate and released to the Craven County Detention facility without bond. His first appearance is set for April 9, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in Craven County District Court. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the New Bern Police Department.
