FONTANA, Wis. — A 57-year-old woman died in a boating accident after becoming stuck on the watercraft’s propeller on Geneva Lake Thursday night, the Fontana Police Department said.

Fontana fire and police were dispatched to Gordy’s Marine for a water rescue at 8 p.m. They determined that the woman fell off a motorized watercraft while it was performing a docking maneuver. The woman “became entangled in the watercraft’s propeller,” according to police.

Emergency personnel freed the woman from the propeller, but she later died at the scene.

The watercraft operator was cooperative with the investigation, and alcohol was not believed to have been a contributing factor in the cause of the accident. Criminal charges have not been filed.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is the leading agency for the ongoing investigation.
