Geneva, Ala. (WDNews) — According to the Geneva Police Department, a Geneva man has been arrested following an attempted murder investigation involving an edged weapon assault Wednesday morning.
Police said officers responded around 9:30 a.m. to a residence in the 600 block of Crosstimbers Drive. When officers arrived, they found the victim conscious and alert with a laceration across the front of his neck.
Investigators said witnesses identified Gregory Goldsmith as the suspect and reported he allegedly assaulted the victim with a razor blade before fleeing the scene.
Authorities said Goldsmith was believed to be traveling to a residence on Cinema Drive in Enterprise. A BOLO was issued, and around 10:30 a.m., the Enterprise Police Department notified Geneva Police that Goldsmith had been taken into custody.
Goldsmith was transported back to Geneva, where he was charged with attempted murder. Officials said he is currently on parole for first-degree robbery and first-degree theft of property. He was booked into the Geneva County Jail and is being held without bond.
The victim was transported to a regional hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
Geneva Police credited officers on scene, 911 dispatchers at 34 Central, and the Enterprise Police Department for helping quickly take the suspect into custody.
A criminal charge is an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
