Geneva’s public sector has begun a three-day strike against the canton’s proposed budget cuts.
Around 900 employees marched on Tuesday evening, chanting “money for public services”. Workers are angry at frozen salary increases, a halt to inflation-linked pay rises, and a new pension law that unions say could cut take-home pay by up to 12%.
The mobilisation has drawn staff from across cantonal services, including hospitals and schools, with further rallies planned today and a fresh march tomorrow.
The proposed 2026 budget is still to be debated in the Grand Council, and will affect tens of thousands of state employees and their families.
