Geneva is bracing for next week’s G7 summit in Évian, with nearly 4,000 soldiers backing up 1,500 cantonal police across Geneva, Vaud and Valais.
The Swiss army will protect Geneva airport, patrol Lake Geneva and reinforce border controls between 12 and 17 June.
The anti-G7 coalition has rejected what it calls “surreal” conditions on its 14 June march, including a ban on crossing the Mont-Blanc bridge and limits on megaphone volume.
Authorities cite the bridge’s structural fragility, but organisers say the alternative route is unsafe and impractical.
Airspace will be restricted from 10 to 18 June, with heavier air traffic expected around Lausanne.
