Roche-Nurix $2.3B Licensing Agreement for Bexobrutideg: BTK Degrader for Blood Cancers - News and Statistics

Roche Holding has entered into a licensing agreement with Nurix Therapeutics for an experimental blood-cancer drug, with the deal valued at up to $2.3 billion. The agreement, announced on Monday, aims to strengthen Roche’s oncology pipeline and may extend into other therapeutic areas, according to the source.

The Swiss pharmaceutical company will make an upfront cash payment of $700 million to Nurix. Additional payments are contingent on the drug, named bexobrutideg, achieving specific development, regulatory, and sales milestones.

Bexobrutideg is scheduled to enter late-stage clinical trials for chronic lymphocytic leukemia this summer, Roche stated. Roche’s deputy chief medical officer, Stefan Frings, indicated in an interview that the primary focus is on B-cell malignancies, with chronic lymphocytic leukemia being the most significant area of interest.

The company noted that the medicine may provide higher effectiveness and a better tolerability profile compared to existing leukemia therapies. Bexobrutideg is a BTK degrader, designed to eliminate the BTK enzyme from cells rather than merely blocking its activity, potentially overcoming resistance.

Roche intends to explore whether the drug can be combined with other treatments for blood cancers and whether it could be effective in other conditions, such as multiple sclerosis and chronic spontaneous urticaria—a form of chronic hives without a known cause. Frings commented that hematology represents a substantial and relatively low-risk opportunity, while the other potential applications are promising but carry higher uncertainty.

Development costs will be split between the two companies, with Roche covering 60% and Nurix covering 40%. Profits and losses from commercialization in the United States will be shared equally, while Roche will handle commercialization in all other markets.
