Canada vs. Switzerland: The matchup

This semifinal is a rematch of Canada’s first game of the Olympics, which Canada won by a sound 4-0 final. The Canadians were dominant outside of their lone loss to the United States (5-0) with a 4-0-0 record and 19-2 scoring advantage in their other four contests. That includes a 5-1 victory over Germany in the quarterfinal round that put Canada on the cusp of a finals berth. Five players found the back of the net in that victory, which began with a Brianne Jenner score at the 1:40 mark of the first period.

Switzerland will compete for its second ever women’s hockey medal after knocking off Finland (1-0) in a quarterfinal shutout win, giving the Swiss another shot at Canada with higher stakes. Alina Muller scored the lone goal of that matchup at the 34:17 mark of the second period after Switzerland managed 14 shots on goal to 40 for Finland. Swiss netminder Andrea Braendli turned away all 40 shots she faced for an impressive shutout to keep her team in medal contention.
