{"id":104166,"date":"2026-07-16T13:32:17","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T13:32:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/104166\/"},"modified":"2026-07-16T13:32:17","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T13:32:17","slug":"swiss-abb-to-buy-uk-group-rotork-in-5-5-bn-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/104166\/","title":{"rendered":"Swiss ABB to buy UK group Rotork in $5.5-bn deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Swiss engineering group ABB said Thursday it has agreed to buy UK rival\u00a0Rotork in a deal worth $5.5 billion in a move to bolster its automation division.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zurich-based ABB also announced a strong rise in second-quarter earnings on the back of \u201crecord-high orders\u201d for all of its products.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the period from April to June, ABB booked a seven-percent rise in net profit to $1.2 billion, a 14-percent increase in sales to $9.5 billion and a 30-percent jump in orders to $12 billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group said it had agreed to pay 503 pence per share in cash for Bath-based Rotork, one of the world\u2019s biggest manufacturers of safety devices that open and close valves in pipelines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the terms of the offer \u2014 representing a total cash deal of around $5.5 billion -\u2013 Rotork shareholders will also be entitled to receive an interim dividend for the period to June 30, 2026 of up to three pence per Rotork share.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rotork is expected to add three percent to ABB\u2019s revenues, the Swiss giant said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2027 and is subject to a shareholder vote and customary regulatory approvals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ABB is one of Europe\u2019s largest industrial engineering and technology groups, employing more than 100,000 people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Swiss engineering group ABB said Thursday it has agreed to buy UK rival\u00a0Rotork in a deal worth $5.5&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":104167,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[130],"tags":[232,4643],"class_list":["post-104166","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-abb","tag-abb","tag-uncategorized"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@ch\/116929910779825881","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/104166","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=104166"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/104166\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/104167"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=104166"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=104166"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=104166"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
