For Geneva Boys Golf<\/a> coach Brian Fink<\/a>, success in golf starts long before the first tee shot. It begins with confidence, composure, and the ability to overcome the inevitable challenges that every round presents.<\/p>\n

Those qualities have become the identity of the Eagle program entering the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

The Eagles finished 8-4 overall and 7-3 in conference play a year ago and return just two starters, but Fink believes his team has the pieces to compete with anyone in Northeast Ohio.<\/p>\n

\u201cI see us competing with any team in our area,\u201d Fink said. \u201cWe are a mentally tough team who continues to impress me with how they battle the challenges that golf brings them each day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leading the way is senior captain Shayne Miniard<\/a>, who earned First Team All-Conference and First Team All-County honors in 2025 while also being named the team\u2019s Most Valuable Player.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur 2025 MVP, Shayne, can play with anyone and is our team captain,\u201d Fink said.<\/p>\n

Joining him is junior Matt Oros<\/a>, another First Team All-Conference and First Team All-County selection who has been a varsity starter since his freshman season.<\/p>\n

\u201cMatt has started every year since his freshman season and improved each year,\u201d Fink said. \u201cHis mental attitude toward the game is inspiring.\u201d<\/p>\n

Geneva also expects junior Carter Roberts<\/a> to take a significant step after dedicating the offseason to improving his game.<\/p>\n

\u201cLooking to see Carter excel this year as he has worked hard on his game all winter,\u201d Fink said.<\/p>\n

Senior Tanner Hartz<\/a> brings experience and leadership as a three-year letterwinner.<\/p>\n

\u201cTanner is a three-year letter winner who is always pushing his team and himself to be their best,\u201d Fink said.<\/p>\n

Another senior expected to make an impact is Mayank Yadav<\/a>, whose development has impressed the coaching staff despite having only one previous season of competitive golf.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn only his second year playing golf, Mayank has improved greatly and is always working on his game,\u201d Fink said.<\/p>\n

While Geneva did not advance any golfers to the district or state tournaments last season, Fink believes the Eagles have the mindset necessary to take another step this fall.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur team needs to be themselves, trust their ability on the course, and be mentally tough to overcome the challenges of the season,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The roster features a blend of experienced veterans and developing contributors, giving Geneva optimism as the season begins.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited to see how our team performs this year,\u201d Fink said. \u201cWe have a good blend of strong players and players who are learning the game. Their attitude toward the game is impressive.\u201d<\/p>\n
