ZURICH, July 24 (Reuters) – Switzerland takes note of the announced additional U.S. tariffs but \u200crejects allegations underlying the forced labour investigation, \u200cthe government said on Friday. <\/p>\n
With tariffs of up to 12.5% \u200bon Swiss imports, effective July 24, the United States is still adhering to a joint statement of November 2025, the Swiss statement added. <\/p>\n
The decision \u200cto impose tariffs \u2060on Swiss imports based on allegedly insufficient measures against forced labour is \u2060neither understandable nor justified, Swiss business association Economiesuisse said. <\/p>\n
“There is no evidence that Swiss supply chains \u200bare being \u200bused to smuggle \u200bgoods produced through forced \u200clabour into the U.S. market,” the group added, calling allegations of forced labor unfounded. <\/p>\n
“Forced labour is already prohibited in Switzerland under constitutional, civil and criminal law.” <\/p>\n
The U.S. decision puts Swiss companies \u200cat a disadvantage to competitors \u200bfrom regions with lower tariff \u200brates, such as \u200bthe European Union and Britain, \u200cEconomiesuisse added. <\/p>\n
“The new tariff rate \u200bincreases the \u200bcosts of Swiss exports without eliminating the existing uncertainty,” the group said, referring to an \u200bongoing Section \u200c301 investigation by the U.S. into alleged \u200bovercapacity in industrial production. <\/p>\n
