The city of Geneva<\/a> issued a Peak Power Day Alert for Monday, July 27, asking residents to reduce their electric use from 2 to 8 p.m., according to a news release.<\/p>\n

The city issues about 20 alerts during an average summer.<\/p>\n

Geneva residents can help the city\u2019s electric operations \u2013 and lower their own utility bills \u2013 by reducing power consumption for a few hours in the afternoon, the release stated.<\/p>\n

The city offers a voluntary electric load reduction program that notifies customers through social media and the website when to reduce electricity usage.<\/p>\n

There are no penalties, no required reporting and no need to track usage. The benefits of reducing energy include supporting a greener Geneva and helping control future electric costs, the release stated.<\/p>\n

To receive timely Peak Power Day Alerts, customers can follow the city on Twitter\/X and subscribe to Peak Power Day Alerts through the website\u2019s \u201cNotify Me\u201d function at www.geneva.il.us<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After an alert has been issued, customers can reduce electric use by adjusting their thermostats a few degrees, running major appliances later in the evening and turning off lights in empty rooms, the release stated.<\/p>\n
