Two planes had to make emergency landings in two separate incidents over two days in Maine.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, Delta Flight 5860, flying from Portland International Jetport to New York City, declared an emergency and had to return to the jetport.<\/p>\n
According to a spokesperson for Delta Air Lines, sensors in the cockpit indicated there was smoke on the aircraft. As a precaution, the pilots turned around.<\/p>\n
The plane landed safely, and all passengers were safety deplaned, according to airport officials. \u00a0<\/p>\n
The Portland Fire Department\u2019s Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting team evaluated the aircraft, and the Delta spokesperson said no smoke was found. Officials think there may have been a faulty sensor or circuit board.<\/p>\n
Passengers were placed on a replacement aircraft and made it to LaGuardia the same day.<\/p>\n
On Monday, another emergency landing occurred in Bangor. Swiss Air flight LX16 from Zurich to New York City made an emergency landing at Bangor International Airport. A statement from Swiss Air said the aircraft reported smoke in the cabin and made an emergency landing out of precaution. All passengers and crew are safe, according to Swiss Air.<\/p>\n
Officials don\u2019t yet know what caused the smoke, but the aircraft is being inspected.<\/p>\n
