(WNCT) \u2014 Evacuations have been ordered for several buildings near the 600 block of Hancock St. in New Bern following a reported gas leak.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Officials told WNCT the gas leak was reported at 1:40 PM today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Officials also confirmed that they instructed everyone within a 500-foot radius to leave the area while crews from Piedmont Natural Gas worked on repairs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">New Bern Fire-Rescue is on the scene, and Piedmont Natural Gas expects the situation to be resolved at approximately 6:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">UPDATE: Evacuees who were displaced as part of the gas leak can return to their homes and businesses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Piedmont Natural Gas is still on scene completing repairs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This is a developing story, and WNCT will update as more information becomes available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
