The search continues for the person who pulled up in a car, fired off multiple rounds of shots, hitting a Wingstop restaurant and some cars in the middle of the day at a busy shopping center.<\/p>\n
Raleigh police are investigating the incident, which happened on New Bern Avenue. No people were injured.<\/p>\n
A heavy police presence was seen at the restaurant as officers responded to the scene.<\/p>\n
Chopper 11 was over the Wingstop, where multiple bullet holes could be seen in the restaurant’s windows.<\/p>\n
According to Raleigh police, the shooting involved bullets fired into the restaurant. Officers said people were inside the Wingstop at the time of the shooting.<\/p>\n
In the middle of the busy Walmart shopping center, people were shocked to hear gunfire…<\/p>\n
“I’m getting ready to head into the Walmart when I heard about five or six gunshots,” said Cleveland Sanders.<\/p>\n
He said he went inside the store, not knowing where the shots came from.<\/p>\n
“I guarantee you about two, three minutes later, you’d see a lot of police, and that’s exactly what happened,” Sanders said.<\/p>\n
A truck was also damaged by bullets. The driver didn’t want to be identified, but said he was parked sitting in his truck when his tire was shot up.<\/p>\n
A nearby store captured a video showing the moments immediately after the shooting, including seeing a car speed off. It’s unclear whether that car was connected to the shooting.<\/p>\n
But for people working nearby, who were blocked from leaving, it was a terrifying situation.<\/p>\n
“And we’re surrounded by cops and investigators, and nobody was able to get out or come in, which is pretty scary because I want to get out and get home to my children,” said Gladys Cruz.<\/p>\n
Police said businesses in the area were evacuated while officers investigated.<\/p>\n
Investigators are still working into the evening. Forensics teams searched a car parked in front of the Wingstop..It was unclear whether that was the car being targeted.<\/p>\n
Cruz works right across the street. She said that with bullets flying everywhere, she was grateful things weren’t worse.<\/p>\n
“We were just lucky, blessed by God, because anybody could have got hit,” Cruz said.<\/p>\n
There were several other businesses nearby that also had surveillance images, which are now part of that investigation.<\/p>\n
Authorities have not released details about a suspect or what may have led up to the shooting.<\/p>\n
The investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
