\n Cosmin Lemnaru, regional director at Raleigh Manor Care Home, Exmouth, took on the M\u00fcrren Via Ferrata in the Swiss Alps on July 11 to support Barchester\u2019s Charitable Foundation, which helps combat loneliness and isolation.\n<\/p>\n
\n The foundation provides funding for individuals, community groups and small charities all across the country.\n<\/p>\n
\n The 2.2km M\u00fcrren Via Ferrata route runs along the M\u00fcrrenfluh cliff face and reaches heights of 600 metres above the Lauterbrunnen Valley.\n<\/p>\n
\n Cosmin said: “I wanted to do something that took me completely out of my comfort zone and I think I can say I achieved that.\n<\/p>\n
\n “There\u2019s a point on that cliff where you\u2019re just iron bars and air \u2013 you keep three points of contact, you don\u2019t look down too long, and you trust the people who checked your kit.\n<\/p>\n
\n “I knew all the staff, residents and relatives at Raleigh Manor plus my family and friends were behind me and their support plus the money I\u2019m raising helped me go the distance.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Clipped to a steel safety cable for the duration of the climb, he navigated rock ledges, vertical ladders and a suspension bridge while tackling his fear of heights.\n<\/p>\n
