The comfort version features upgraded hotel accommodation, often with spa facilities and swimming pools.

The E5 Alpine Crossing is a section of the entire E5 trail, which stretches around 3,200 kilometres from the Atlantic coast of France to Verona in northern Italy. The Alpine Crossing section sits between Oberstdorf in Germany and Merano in Italy.

Over eight days, walkers cross Germany, Austria and Italy, traversing dramatic mountain passes, flower filled alpine meadows, rugged ridgelines and traditional mountain villages.

Trail highlights

Crossing the Mädelejoch Pass into Austria
Traversing the Venet massif
Climbing to the Pitztaler Jöchl, the highest point of the journey
And finally descending beneath the Hirzer massif into the spa town of Merano, where vineyards, orchards and Mediterranean influences replace the rugged alpine scenery

The route’s enduring appeal lies in its remarkable diversity. In little more than 100 kilometres, walkers experience three countries, distinct alpine cultures, ever changing landscapes and some of the Alps’ most spectacular mountain scenery, making it one of Europe’s defining long distance walks.

The Passer River winds through the heart of Merano.

UTracks has added the E5 Alpine Crossing, which traverses across Oberstdorf, Germany and Merano, Italy, to its hiking…

[16
50
post-110005","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-alps","tag-alps
["GET
