(Bloomberg) — Vitol Group is expected to supply a new liquefied natural gas import terminal in Colombia for five years starting in 2027, the project\u2019s developer said.<\/p>\n
The project is part of push to rapidly build LNG import terminals in Colombia, which is facing a natural gas deficit due to lower domestic production and rising demand. The country currently has one LNG import terminal in operation, with a slate of new projects proposed by state oil company Ecopetrol SA and others.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Amaz\u00f3nica LNG\u2019s project will be located near Barranquilla, Colombia, on the country\u2019s Atlantic coast. The facility will use a floating storage unit and include small-scale LNG services.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The contract with Vitol will cover as much as 4 million tons of LNG over the five-year period, starting in the second quarter of 2027, according to a message from Amaz\u00f3nica LNG sent to Bloomberg News. Amaz\u00f3nica LNG is a joint venture between port logistics company Retramar and private equity fund Affinity Energy.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for Vitol did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n
