Buyers have more homes to choose from than they did at the start of the year, competition <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redfin.com\/news\/housing-market-update-pending-sales-increase-summer-starts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has balanced<\/a> in a few slower markets, and price growth has remained relatively modest. Affordability is still a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redfin.com\/news\/home-prices-record-high-june-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">key issue<\/a> and is limiting activity, though.<\/p>\n<p>But not all markets are seeing the same trends. Some cities in the Midwest, Northeast, and Bay Area have become <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redfin.com\/news\/most-competitive-housing-markets-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">red-hot<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redfin.com\/news\/san-francisco-home-prices-march-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">much more expensive<\/a> as buyers fight over a dwindling inventory.
