(WKYT) &#8211; Wayne County Schools is delaying the start of classes for the 2026-27 school year until Tuesday, Aug. 25 for kindergarten through twelfth grade students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The delay is due to ongoing construction at the Walker Early Learning Center, according to the district.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"link | text-reset d-block h-100 w-100\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wkyt.com\/page\/wkyt-apps-for-ios-and-android-devices\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_self\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"WKYT Streaming Apps\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/MEPHTWNVMREWLEQQWWFJM27ZMA.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The first day of preschool will be Tuesday, Sept. 8, and preschool phase-in days are scheduled for September 2 and 3. The district said preschool teachers will reach out to parents to schedule phase-in times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Wayne County Board of Education will approve an amended school calendar during their regular monthly meeting on August 20, the district said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">School orientations will not be impacted and will continue as scheduled on the following days and times:<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday, Aug. 4: Walker Early Learning Center from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Bell Tuesday, Aug. 4: Wayne County Middle School (7th and 8th grade) from noon to 6 p.m.Thursday, Aug. 6: Monticello Elementary School from noon to 6 p.m.Thursday, Aug. 6: Wayne County Middle School (6th grade) from noon to 6 p.m.Thursday, Aug. 6: Wayne County High School from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WKYT.
