{"id":112412,"date":"2026-08-06T15:34:16","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T15:34:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/112412\/"},"modified":"2026-08-06T15:34:16","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T15:34:16","slug":"lorena-wiebes-wins-opening-stage-of-womens-tour-de-france-wral-com","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/112412\/","title":{"rendered":"Lorena Wiebes wins opening stage of Women&#8217;s Tour de France :: WRAL.com"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) \u2014 Lorena Wiebes won the opening stage of the Women\u2019s Tour de France on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The Dutch cyclist, who represents the SD Worx-Protime team, claimed the flat 137-kilometer (85-mile) ride that started and finished in the city of Lausanne and took the competitors past two lakes locked in the Swiss Alps.<\/p>\n<p>Kim Le Court crossed the finish line second, ahead of Demi Vollering, who has won multiple races this year including the Giro d\u2019Italia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t believe it,\u201d Wiebes said. \u201cThe SD Worx-Protime team worked super-hard. Demi attacked, I thought, \u2018I need to follow\u2019. It was a super-long sprint.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>French rider Pauline Ferrand-Pr\u00e9v\u00f4t, who won the race last year, finished eighth while Vuelta winner Paula Blasi was 12th.<\/p>\n<p>This edition, the fifth of the Women\u2019s Tour, will cover 1,175 kilometers (730 miles) over nine days. <\/p>\n<p>Sunday&#8217;s 149km stage goes from Aigle to Geneva before the route heads into France.
