It will combine LevelTen’s marketplace with ABB’s electrification, digital and energy management capabilities.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

LevelTen has facilitated more than 20 GW of clean energy transactions across more than 35 markets in North America and Europe. Its users include hyperscalers, industrial companies, commercial buyers and utilities.

For ABB, the partnership fills a gap between energy strategy and execution. Industrial customers can already use ABB technologies for electrification, energy management and emissions reduction. LevelTen adds access to power purchase agreements and other clean energy contracts.

“Our customers are under real pressure to reduce their carbon footprint while managing energy costs and maintaining reliable, 24/7 operations,” said Stuart Thompson, President of Electrification Service division at ABB. “One important piece missing from the solutions we provide today: a straightforward way to secure long-term clean energy at the right price. LevelTen Energy brings exactly that capability. Through the partnership, ABB will be able to extend its growing energy and carbon advisory services portfolio with renewable energy procurement capabilities, helping customers move from planning and implementation to ongoing optimization and reporting.”

Stuart Thompson, President of Electrification Service division at ABB

Corporate clean power procurement grows more complex

The partnership comes as companies face tighter expectations around how renewable electricity claims are measured.

Many businesses have already invested in onsite generation and energy efficiency. Larger emissions reductions often require clean electricity sourced through long-term contracts.

Those contracts can expose buyers to pricing, location and project risks. They also require increasingly sophisticated data as companies move beyond annual renewable energy matching.

Some buyers are now seeking closer alignment between when clean electricity is generated and when it is consumed. That shift increases demand for battery storage, microgrids and advanced energy management systems.

ABB already operates across those areas. LevelTen adds clean energy contracting, environmental attribute certificate trading and portfolio management capabilities.

That combination could help large electricity users create more measurable procurement strategies while managing reliability and cost.

“The partnership is expected to accelerate growth opportunities for both companies. ABB will gain access to LevelTen’s extensive ecosystem of clean energy developers and projects, creating new opportunities to deliver monitoring, optimization and lifecycle services. At the same time, LevelTen will benefit from ABB’s domain expertise and global customer relationships, particularly within manufacturing, industrial and commercial sectors, as well as ABB’s strong presence in growth markets including Asia-Pacific.”

RELATED ARTICLE: ABB Leads $10M Series A in Gridcog to Scale Energy Modelling Platform

Industrial demand opens new market opportunities

LevelTen’s platform covers power purchase agreements, capacity, energy storage agreements, environmental attributes and other clean energy transactions.

Bryce Smith CEO of LevelTen Energy, said: “This strategic partnership will generate new clean energy solutions, allowing ABB’s global customers to seamlessly tap into clean power, capacity, and portfolio management tools. Together, we have a real opportunity to help even more customers decarbonize.”

Bryce Smith CEO of LevelTen Energy

The partnership also gives ABB access to LevelTen’s developer ecosystem. That could create new opportunities for ABB to provide monitoring, optimization and lifecycle services alongside clean energy procurement.

For LevelTen, ABB brings global industrial relationships and technical expertise. That reach could be particularly useful in manufacturing and other energy-intensive sectors.

ABB has been building this capability through venture investments. Its recent investments include energy modelling company Gridcog.

ABB Electrification Ventures has invested more than $110 million across 18 startups since 2021. The unit sits within ABB Ventures, the group’s broader venture capital platform.

Since its formation in 2010, ABB Ventures has invested more than $500 million in startups aligned with electrification, automation and motion technologies.

For executives and investors, the transaction reflects a broader convergence in corporate energy strategy. Procurement, onsite generation, storage and digital energy management are increasingly being treated as one integrated system.

That shift matters as companies balance decarbonization targets with power availability and rising demand. For multinational industrial groups, access to clean electricity is becoming both a climate issue and an operational constraint.

ABB’s LevelTen partnership places renewable energy contracting alongside the physical infrastructure needed to consume and manage that power. As grids become more constrained and corporate reporting expectations tighten, that integrated approach could become increasingly important across global industrial markets.

The ESG News Editorial Team is comprised of veteran financial journalists and sustainability analysts dedicated to providing real-time, objective reporting on global ESG regulations, climate finance, and corporate governance.
