Fleming in Geneva, then Rep. Chesteen met with officials with the governor’s office and the National Guard. He advocated for the armory building to remain open, and that advocacy led to the idea of the facility converting into a center for educational and workforce development for the area.

After a nearly $5 million renovation project for the facility from beginning in 2016, the newly reborn G-TECH was reopened in Fall 2017 in partnership with Geneva City Schools, Geneva County Schools, ACCS and the National Guard, allowing hundreds of students to engage in dual enrollment programs ranging from education, health sciences, automotive technology, aviation maintenance technology and welding.

Now owned by Enterprise State Community College since 2024, G-TECH serves around 200 students annually and offers seven high-quality dual enrollment programs while continuing partnerships with Geneva City and Geneva County schools to provide students with great preparation opportunities for college, careers and the workforce.

Download the WTVY News4 app to get alerts and stories the moment they are published.
