GENEVA \u2014 Next week, the Finger Lakes region is set to experience a theatrical event that promises to be as thought-provoking as it is emotionally charged.<\/p>\n
Theatre444, the acclaimed Geneva-based organization, is bringing the award-winning musical \u201cDogfight\u201d to the Geneva Community Center\u2019s Pat Collins Black Box Theatre for a limited run from Aug. 21-29.<\/p>\n
Based on the 1991 cult favorite film, \u201cDogfight\u201d features a score by the celebrated duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul \u2014 the Tony and Academy Award-winning minds behind \u201cDear Evan Hansen,\u201d \u201cThe Greatest Showman,\u201d and \u201cLa La Land.\u201d<\/p>\n
The story transports audiences to San Francisco on Nov. 21, 1963, on the eve of the Vietnam War. It follows a group of young Marines during their final night of revelry before deployment, centered around a callous tradition known as a \u201cdogfight.\u201d<\/p>\n
The narrative takes a profound turn when Private Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an idealistic waitress. Their encounter blossoms into an unexpected connection that challenges Eddie\u2019s worldview, proving the transformative power of empathy.<\/p>\n
Artistic Director Pam Rapoza describes the production as a balance of \u201chigh-octane rock melodies with tender, vulnerable moments,\u201d noting that the story \u201casks us how we treat one another when no one is watching \u2014 a question as relevant today as it was in 1963.\u201d<\/p>\n
