{"id":115193,"date":"2026-08-13T19:17:27","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T19:17:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/115193\/"},"modified":"2026-08-13T19:17:27","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T19:17:27","slug":"swiss-too-big-to-fail-reforms-target-senior-bankers-bonuses-crisis-planning-fintech-schweiz-digital-finance-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/115193\/","title":{"rendered":"Swiss Too-Big-to-Fail Reforms Target Senior Bankers\u2019 Bonuses, Crisis Planning &#8211; Fintech Schweiz Digital Finance News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Free Newsletter<\/p>\n<p>Get the hottest Fintech Switzerland News once a month in your Inbox<\/p>\n<p>Switzerland is proposing stricter rules for banks as it overhauls its too-big-to-fail framework after the Credit Suisse crisis.<\/p>\n<p>The changes would make senior bankers more accountable, tighten rules on executive pay and give the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority <a href=\"https:\/\/fintechnews.ch\/tag\/FINMA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">(FINMA)<\/a> stronger enforcement powers.<\/p>\n<p>Banks would also get broader access to liquidity from the <a href=\"https:\/\/fintechnews.ch\/tag\/Swiss-National-Bank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Swiss National Bank (SNB)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Banks with at least 250 employees would come under a new senior managers regime.<\/p>\n<p>They would have to clearly set out who is responsible for key decisions and business areas.<\/p>\n<p>Tougher Bonus Rules for Senior Bank Executives<\/p>\n<p>New pay rules aimed at limiting excessive risk-taking would apply across the banking sector.<\/p>\n<p>Senior or highly paid executives at systemically important banks would also face longer holding periods for variable pay and clawback provisions.<\/p>\n<p>FINMA could step in earlier when it sees governance problems or signs that a bank\u2019s financial position is getting worse.<\/p>\n<p>It would also be able to fine institutions for rule breaches and impose penalties when ordered measures are not carried out on time.<\/p>\n<p>Stronger Crisis Planning and Liquidity Rules<\/p>\n<p>Systemically important banks would face tougher requirements for recovery and resolution planning.<\/p>\n<p>The proposals would also make it easier for banks to prepare and transfer collateral when seeking SNB liquidity.<\/p>\n<p>Systemically important banks would face minimum requirements, while category 3 banks would follow a risk-based approach. Smaller category 4 and 5 banks would not be affected.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Council opened a consultation on changes to the Banking Act and Liquidity Ordinance on 12 August.
