A 300-square-foot bedroom space was created under skylights in the converted attic. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"T2DFKP643BCJHGSNVLGQGCEBNM\">The 1,110-square-foot daylight basement has a bathroom, a wood-burning furnace and a newer forced-air furnace. The area of 3,152 square miles remains sparsely populated. The most recent federal census recorded about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/quickfacts\/fact\/table\/wallowacountyoregon\/PST045225\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/quickfacts\/fact\/table\/wallowacountyoregon\/PST045225\">7,592 residents<\/a> in the county. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"FWBGAE7L7JCBPNEG22C3B4MTUA\">The town of Imnaha, at 2,000 feet elevation, was laid out in 1902, but a post office was first established in 1885 inside a homesteader\u2019s house, according to historians.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3ZE7R6UYE5AXZLR7IFPAYZCHVQ\">News that a mailbag arrived was passed up and down the canyon to homesteaders and ranchers, Daggett said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"AZ7E7MP5JBB7LJE5Y4SGXCAN7Q\">\u201cThey would ride a horse or take a wagon to the homesteader\u2019s house and pick their mail up,\u201d Daggett said. \u201cMost of them were awfully nice and if they had three or four other people living along their route home, they would drop off mail to them on their way home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"UA752QVNX5EA5KK355YYNYXLVE\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imnahatavern.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.imnahatavern.com\/\">Imnaha Store &amp; Tavern<\/a> across <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/QqoMqJNoCZsUGGgT7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/QqoMqJNoCZsUGGgT7\">Little Sheep Creek Highway<\/a> from the historic post office was built around 1904. Some locals say a post office was inside the store until the building for sale was constructed. The current U.S. Post Office serving Imnaha is 7.5 miles south at <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/zUub4ScmYBDk67N3A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/zUub4ScmYBDk67N3A\">101 Hat Point Road<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"GLEVNTH6KNE7JIZRHR77D5K6UY\">Today, tourists, hunters and anglers visit the area year-round, said Daggett, who thinks a young family and retirees would like to live there, or someone may want a vacation home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RBMSB5IXX5BG7OTCQQ5D3EA2WI\">\u201cFor those who like to garden, the season is extended beyond what people in Joseph enjoy,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t know who the buyer will be, but it is a unique property in a little town that is special unto itself.
