{"id":117768,"date":"2026-08-20T07:39:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T07:39:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/117768\/"},"modified":"2026-08-20T07:39:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T07:39:10","slug":"issb-to-establish-seat-in-geneva-switzerland-from-2027","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/117768\/","title":{"rendered":"ISSB to establish seat in Geneva, Switzerland from 2027"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) has announced that it plans to open an office in Geneva, <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabilityonline.net\/tag\/switzerland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">Switzerland<\/a>, which will serve as the ISSB\u2019s seat from 2027, as part of a five-year plan approved by the <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabilityonline.net\/tag\/ifrs-foundation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">IFRS Foundation<\/a> Trustees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Geneva office, which is expected to open by the middle of next year, marks the expansion of the ISSB\u2019s existing multi-location model, which includes offices in Beijing, Frankfurt, Montreal and Tokyo. Its Frankfurt office will continue to act as a hub for the ISSB\u2019s EU engagement.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Major International hub\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am thrilled that Switzerland, through our new <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabilityonline.net\/tag\/geneva\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">Geneva<\/a> office, is joining our global network,\u201d commented Emmanuel Faber, <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabilityonline.net\/tag\/issb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">ISSB<\/a> chair. \u201cAs a major international hub for sustainable finance and a unique centre for multilateral cooperation, Geneva is a natural ecosystem for our work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAccess to resources and supply chains is being challenged amid rising geopolitical uncertainties, climate events and other emerging sustainability-related risks and opportunities. Now more than ever, capital markets need a global language for companies to communicate their resilience to investors. My sincere thanks to all those who make this work possible through their ongoing support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ISSB was established in 2021 to develop sustainability disclosure standards focused on information about <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabilityonline.net\/category\/sustainability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">sustainability<\/a>-related risks and opportunities that could affect enterprise value. Currently, more than 45 jurisdictions are using ISSB Standards, while from next year, companies in 18 jurisdictions will be issuing reports using the standards.<\/p>\n<p>Funding framework<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ISSB sits as a standard-setting body within the IFRS \u2013 International Sustainability Standards Board, which said that the five-year plan provides a funding framework for the initiative, while also securing funding for the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur five-year operating and financing plan helps ensure the IFRS Foundation and its boards are equipped to deliver high-quality Standards critical to global capital markets,\u201d added Erkki Liikanen, IFRS Foundation trustee chair. \u201cOn behalf of the Trustees, I extend my thanks to all those, current and future, who fund the important work of the IASB and the ISSB.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn addition, I thank our funders \u2013\u00a0including those in Beijing, Frankfurt, Montreal and Tokyo \u2013\u00a0for supporting the ISSB as its journey began.
