According to police, the man had been hiking with companions when he fell on the Rinnkendlsteig trail in Sch\u00f6nau am K\u00f6nigssee. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph text-standard wrap-break-word text-dark-gray font-thesans w-full\">The mountain rescue team, which had been alerted, could only confirm that he had died. The 76-year-old was recovered by helicopter, as were his companions, who were subsequently assisted by a crisis intervention team. The investigation into the cause of the fall is ongoing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph text-standard wrap-break-word text-dark-gray font-thesans w-full\">The Rinnkendlsteig trail in the Berchtesgadener Land region leads from K\u00f6nigssee to the K\u00fchrointalm along the eastern side of the Kleiner Watzmann and offers sweeping views of K\u00f6nigssee.
