Double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra is set to return to Diamond League action at the Lausanne Diamond League, also known as Athletissima, on August 21. The Indian javelin star will face one of the strongest fields of the season as he looks to build on his Commonwealth Games silver.<\/p>\n

The Lausanne meeting comes just days after the Commonwealth Games javelin final, where Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage produced a huge 89.75m throw to win gold. Chopra finished second with a season-best 85.83m<\/a>, while Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem and Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott had relatively disappointing outings.<\/p>\n

Pathirage has been one of the biggest stories in men’s javelin this season<\/a>. His breakthrough has also added another layer to the rivalry ahead of Lausanne, with Chopra, Nadeem and Pathirage set to face each other again before the Asian Games.<\/p>\n

Chopra is still working his way back to his best after an injury layoff following the 2025 World Championships, where he finished eighth. The Commonwealth Games marked only his second major competition since that break, making the Lausanne outing another important test of his progress.<\/p>\n

Lausanne has also been a happy hunting ground for Chopra. He won the meeting in 2022 and 2023 before finishing second in 2024 with a then-season-best 89.49m.<\/p>\n

NEERAJ CHOPRA LOOKING FORWARD<\/p>\n

Chopra’s season-best currently stands at 85.83m, achieved while winning silver at the Commonwealth Games. That was an encouraging return, but the Indian will be up against a field packed with throwers capable of crossing 90m.<\/p>\n

Pathirage’s form has been particularly impressive, and Chopra has welcomed the Sri Lankan’s emergence.<\/p>\n

“He’s a good boy. He’s a friend of mine. This year he really threw well. It’s good he’s doing something great for Sri Lanka,” Chopra said about Pathirage.<\/p>\n

Nadeem, meanwhile, could not find his rhythm at the Commonwealth Games, finishing ninth with a best of 77.41m. Walcott was sixth with 82.55m, his only throw beyond 80m coming with his final attempt.<\/p>\n
