{"id":118457,"date":"2026-08-21T10:41:33","date_gmt":"2026-08-21T10:41:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/118457\/"},"modified":"2026-08-21T10:41:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-21T10:41:33","slug":"5-missing-in-switzerland-after-fire-rips-through-restaurant-apartments-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/118457\/","title":{"rendered":"5 missing in Switzerland after fire rips through restaurant, apartments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Aug. 21 (UPI) &#8212; Five people were missing feared dead and eight others were injured early Friday after a major fire razed a restaurant with residential apartments above in the Swiss alpine town of Thusis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Cantonal police in the eastern Graub\u00fcnden region said in <a data-ylk=\"slk:a news release;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;link&quot;,&quot;yLinkElementType&quot;:&quot;article_link&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gr.ch\/DE\/institutionen\/verwaltung\/djsg\/kapo\/aktuelles\/medien\/2026\/Seiten\/202608211.aspx\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">a news release<\/a> that nearly 100 firefighters from four area fire departments were scrambled to the scene after the blaze broke out on the second floor just after midnight local time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The release was duplicate-filed under the secondary category of a missing persons appeal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">They said firefighters&#8217; access to the fire was cut off after the stairwell collapsed, forcing them to use a crane to cut open the roof.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Two of the fourteen people who managed to get out of the four story building were seriously injured.
