Neeraj Chopra will be aiming to return to the top step of the podium when he competes at the Lausanne Diamond League 2026 in Switzerland on Friday. The Indian javelin star arrives at the event after securing silver at the Commonwealth Games last month.<\/p>\n
Chopra has enjoyed considerable success in Lausanne in recent years. He claimed the Diamond League title there in 2022 with a throw of 89.08m and followed it up with another victory in 2023, when he registered 87.66m. He came close to a hat-trick in 2024 but finished second despite producing an 89.49m effort.<\/p>\n
Friday’s competition will mark only Chopra’s third appearance in a competitive event during the 2026 season. The two-time Olympic medallist made his comeback at the Doha Diamond League in June after a lengthy injury absence. He managed 85.69m to finish fourth before improving to 85.83m and taking silver at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n
The Lausanne event presents Chopra with another chance to end his wait for an international victory. His last win on the global circuit came at the NC Classic in July 2025. His current Indian national record of 90.23m was also set at the Doha Diamond League last year.<\/p>\n
The meeting could prove equally significant for Chopra’s qualification hopes for the Diamond League Final. The top six javelin throwers in the season standings earn automatic qualification, while national and global wildcards can provide additional places. Chopra currently sits seventh with five points and will be looking to add to his tally in Lausanne.<\/p>\n
He faces a strong field, including reigning world champion Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago, Grenadian Olympic medallist Anderson Peters and Czech Republic’s Olympic medallist Jakub Vadlejch.<\/p>\n
Sri Lankan thrower Rumesh Pathirage will also compete, adding another interesting subplot after beating Chopra to Commonwealth Games gold in Glasgow. Pathirage currently leads the world rankings after recording an enormous 92.62m at the Rome Diamond League.<\/p>\n
Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem will not be part of the Lausanne field.
