Ahead of the 2026\/27 WSL season getting underway, G\u00e9raldine Reuteler spoke exclusively to Her Football Hub at Arsenal\u2019s media day to discuss her decision to leave Germany, dreams of playing at the Emirates Stadium, and what she enjoys getting up to in her free time. <\/p>\n
Arsenal announced the singing of their new recruit in early July after heavy speculation last summer. Following the departure of Lia W\u00e4lti to Juventus, the Gunners identified fellow Swiss midfielder G\u00e9raldine Reuteler as an ideal replacement.<\/p>\n
However, with one year left on her contract with Eintracht Frankfurt, the club were unwilling to lose one of their longest-serving players. Reuteler, who remained in Germany, announced that following the conclusion of her contract she would be leaving the club after eight years and relocating to England.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wanted to see another league and the English league is one of the best leagues in the world,\u201d she said. \u201cSo yeah, I\u2019m really happy to be here.<\/p>\n
\u201cArsenal is one of the best clubs in the world and I think it\u2019s a privilege to play here, I\u2019m excited.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 27-year-old arrives in north London with a wealth of experience to her name, having established herself as an important player for both club and country. She made her Switzerland debut as a teenager and has since become one of the country\u2019s leading players.<\/p>\n
On the international stage, the midfielder has featured in three European Championships including the 2025 edition hosted by her native Switzerland<\/a>, alongside the 2023 FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup.<\/p>\n But before she became an established international, she was simply a young girl following her older brothers into football. Beginning her football journey with FC Stans before joining FC Luzern in 2008, she made her senior debut in Switzerland\u2019s top flight at just 15-years-old.<\/p>\n Where does Reuteler play?<\/p>\n Reuteler has spent the majority of her club career at Frankfurt, developing herself into a versatile attacking midfielder capable of operating in several positions. While she sees herself primarily as an eight, that flexibility was a major attraction for Arsenal manager Ren\u00e9e Slegers.<\/p>\n \u201cShe told me I\u2019m the box-to-box player, so I think I\u2019ll fit in the system of how Arsenal want to play,\u201d Reuteler explained.<\/p>\n That versatility could prove particularly useful for Arsenal as they look to win their first WSL title since the 2018\/19 season. Slegers has repeatedly shown a willingness to use players in different roles. The 27-year-old\u2019s ability to move between midfield and attacking areas will surely give Arsenal another option when trying to break down opponents \u2013 something they have struggled with in previous seasons.<\/p>\n Embed from Getty Images<\/a><\/p>\n This summer has seen a flurry of stars from the Frauen Bundesliga depart for the WSL. Arsenal alone have signed three new recruits from the German league \u2013 Reuteler; Selina Cerci from Hoffenheim; Lisa Baum from RB Leipzig; and Georgia Stanway from Bayern-Munich.<\/p>\n For Reuteler, she sees England as an opportunity to push herself outside of the environment she\u2019d become accustomed to in Germany.<\/p>\n \u201cI think the Bundesliga is also a good league, a lot of good players, but I think it stopped improving. I think it\u2019s a right step for me to be here, to see something else, something new, and also to improve.\u201d<\/p>\n How does Arsenal compare to Eintracht Frankfurt?<\/p>\n Having spent eight years at Frankfurt, Reuteler admitted that Arsenal\u2019s environment feels different, particularly in terms of the resources available to the players.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are so many great players I can learn from and the training is so professional and good quality, and I think I can learn something every day,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a huge difference [to Frankfurt]. It\u2019s much bigger here and everything is a bit more professional. There\u2019s so many staff members everywhere.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have more people here for everything, we have one or two or three people.\u201d<\/p>\n
