{"id":119550,"date":"2026-08-24T05:37:21","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T05:37:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/119550\/"},"modified":"2026-08-24T05:37:21","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T05:37:21","slug":"james-sabry-takes-over-global-partnering-for-roche","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/119550\/","title":{"rendered":"James Sabry takes over global partnering for Roche"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>James Sabry, who currently oversees partnering for Genentech\u2019s R&amp;D group, is extending his domain as Roche <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roche.com\/media\/releases\/med-cor-2018-06-22.htm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">taps<\/a> him for a new role\u2014global head of partnering.<\/p>\n<p>The position was created as the Swiss pharma\u2019s Head of Roche Partnering, Sophie Kornowski-Bonnet, leaves for greener pastures. Instead of hiring a replacement, Roche is combining partnering operations for Roche\u2019s pharma R&amp;D group (pRED) and Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED).<\/p>\n<p>It is a reversal from Roche\u2019s strategy so far. The company has taken pains to keep the R&amp;D units separate since its 2008 acquisition of Genentech, keeping the latter\u2019s South San Francisco site open as an independent R&amp;D center to preserve its \u201cunique research culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sabry will move to Basel and is set to start his new position on Aug. 1.<\/p>\n<p>During his tenure at gRED, Sabry oversaw a series of deals, the latest of which being a partnership with Cambridge, U.K.-based Microbiotica <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercebiotech.com\/biotech\/genentech-signs-534m-deal-microbiotica-search-gut-bacteria-for-ibd-targets-new-drugs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">potentially worth $534 million<\/a>. The duo will use Microbiotica\u2019s gut bacteria metagenomics platform to test samples from Genentech\u2019s clinical trials in inflammatory bowel disease. And just before that, Genentech <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fiercebiotech.com\/biotech\/genentech-forms-1b-discovery-collaboration-soil-prospector-lodo-therapeutics\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">inked<\/a> an open-ended discovery deal with Lodo Therapeutics around deriving unique, natural products from the microbial DNA found in soil.
