(SEDG) shares climbed more than 5% in premarket trading Wednesday after UBS upgraded the solar-equipment maker to Buy from Neutral, citing a new U.S. restriction on foreign-produced power inverters that analysts say could hand the company significant market share and pricing power.

The investment bank raised its price target on the stock to $42 from $36, implying roughly 40% upside from Tuesday’s close. The upgrade marks a notable divergence from Wall Street consensus, where 20 of 27 analysts covering SolarEdge rate the shares a Hold, according to LSEG data.

“SEDG is a key beneficiary of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ban on new inverter model imports,” UBS analyst Jon Windham said Wednesday in a note to clients. “We anticipate the ban will create a supply-constrained U.S. market driving both share gains and potential pricing power for SEDG.”

The FCC added foreign-produced connected inverters to its Covered List in late July, citing cybersecurity and supply-chain threats to critical infrastructure. The measure generally prevents new models from receiving the authorization required to be imported or sold in the country, though previously authorized models are not automatically prohibited.

UBS estimates the restriction affects more than 50% of the U.S. inverter market, a shift the firm believes could push solar photovoltaic system manufacturers toward SolarEdge products. The company already maintains U.S. manufacturing bases in Florida, Texas and Utah.

Windham highlighted the potential for SolarEdge’s utility-scale inverter product, the 330kW TerraMax, which he said “had seen limited market adoption prior to the ban.” The upgrade, he added, is “based on near-term share and pricing gain from SEDG’s existing commercially available inverter lineup.”

UBS also pointed to the company’s upcoming Analyst Day on Sep. 10 as a key near-term catalyst, alongside the regulatory tailwinds.

The analyst call builds on a second-quarter earnings report that showed signs of improving execution. SolarEdge reported revenue of $346.2 million on Aug. 5, an 11.5% sequential increase, and beat consensus estimates with adjusted earnings per share of 5 cents. The company posted EBITDA of $15.93 million for the quarter.

During the earnings call, management emphasized that rigorous inventory clear-outs and normalized channel distribution levels have positioned the firm for operational leverage. Leadership expressed confidence that U.S. manufacturing incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act, along with steady demand for commercial and storage solutions, will continue to drive margin expansion and operating profitability through the second half of the year.

The FCC action is part of a broader U.S. policy push to reduce reliance on Chinese solar manufacturing. Earlier in August, the Trump administration announced minimum import prices for polysilicon and related products, along with an additional 15% tariff on certain derivatives beginning Dec. 4. The minimum prices include $21 per kilogram for polysilicon, $0.22 per watt for solar cells and $0.38 per watt for modules. China accounts for roughly 80% of global solar manufacturing capacity.

Retail sentiment surrounding SEDG on Stocktwits turned neutral from bearish over the past 24 hours. The stock is up 10% so far in 2026, though it has fallen roughly 58% over the past three months. Wednesday’s advance puts shares on track for only a second gain in eight sessions.

UBS increased its EBITDA estimates on SolarEdge and said the stock’s valuation looks attractive following the pullback.

SolarEdge Technologies Inc.
