New event, new country, new arena, new audience, but always the same enthusiasm! What do all World Judo Tour events, and indeed all competitions organised by the International Judo Federation, have in common? The answer is obvious: judo. Yet it is more than an obvious answer. It is proof that the sport is a universal language, one that brings people together, fills venues and generates passion at every level, from the first call to the tatami, to the final bow of the day.<\/p>\n

In Lausanne, the World Judo Tour has entered a new country with the first Ecole Mont-Olivet Lausanne Grand Slam and the two other events for adapted judo and deaf judo. For the 513 athletes representing 77 countries during the WJT grand slam, the occasion carries particular importance. This is not simply another opportunity to compete at the highest level; the event awards valuable qualification points on the road to the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028. Every contest matters, every score can shape a journey and every judoka arrives with the determination to make their mark.<\/p>\n

The Vaudoise Arena is hosting an international judo event of this magnitude for the first time. A new venue always means a new working environment for technical teams and a new atmosphere for the athletes. Everyone is prepared for this reality and knows how to adapt but it still requires flexibility, concentration and an open mind. At the end of the chain, what matters is that every judoka can express themselves freely and give their best, while every spectator can enjoy the spectacle unfolding before them.<\/p>\n

In Lausanne, all the essential boxes have been ticked already. After months of hard work, the venue is ready, the systems are functioning and each person knows their role. It still might be possible to take a wrong door in a new arena but the warmth of the welcome and the smiles of those working behind the scenes leave no doubt that the organising committee and its many volunteers are entirely at the service of the judoka and the public.<\/p>\n

The first sign of success came at precisely 8.30am when the competition began exactly as scheduled. The first ippon landed, the first cheers rose from the stands and Lausanne immediately found its judo voice. As the event gathers momentum, the public continues to respond with genuine enthusiasm. This is why discovering a new place is so rewarding.
