A 22-year-old woman was fatally shot at a rave attended by around 3,500 people in the Swiss town of Aarau in the early hours of Sunday, Aargau cantonal police said.<\/p>\n
Another woman and four men, aged between 24 and 27, also suffered injuries ranging from minor to serious. All of the victims were residents of Switzerland, according to police.<\/p>\n
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has named the woman killed in the shooting as Italian national Maria Spinelli.<\/p>\n
“I wish to express my deepest condolences on the death of Maria Spinelli, the young Italian woman who fell victim to the tragic shooting in Aarau, Switzerland,” Meloni wrote on X.<\/p>\n
“My thoughts are also with the other injured, including two Italian citizens, and with all those affected by this tragic incident,” she added.<\/p>\n
Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis also reportedly expressed his condolences to his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani. Tajani has sent a task force to Switzerland to support local authorities, according to the report.<\/p>\n
The shooting occurred at around 2.30 am during a rave. Witnesses said they initially mistook the gunshots for fireworks. Around 10 shots can be heard in a video published by Swiss newspaper “Blick,” which was reportedly recorded near the scene.<\/p>\n
There have also been reports of a possible second crime scene. Swiss broadcaster Tele M1 reported that shots were also fired at members of the travelling community. Police have not yet confirmed those reports.<\/p>\n
A manhunt for the suspect is ongoing.<\/p>\n
“Possible motives and the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear,” cantonal police said. Authorities have not released further information about the suspect or said whether any arrests have been made.<\/p>\n
According to Swiss emergency news outlet BRK News, a Swiss military Super Puma helicopter has also been deployed over the wider Aarau area.<\/p>\n
Flight data show the aircraft making several movements around the town. It is not yet clear what role the helicopter is playing in the ongoing operation.<\/p>\n
German police have also joined the search operation, a spokesperson for Freiburg police headquarters confirmed. No further details about the specific measures have been released.<\/p>\n
