The final block concluded with the +100 kg final between Inal Tasoev of Russia and Martti Puumalainen of Finland. Tasoev arrived as world number one, a two-time world champion and the winner of 11 grand slam gold medals. His 2026 campaign had included victory at the Qazaqstan Barysy Grand Slam in Astana and bronze in Ulaanbaatar. Puumalainen, ranked 13th in the world, had returned to a grand slam final after a particularly strong day. The 2023 World Judo Masters winner had also taken bronze at the Qingdao Grand Prix in June.<\/p>\n

The final began as many had expected, with Tasoev producing explosive judo through powerful, mobile attacking combinations. Puumalainen, though, refused to be drawn into the trap and pushed the world champion into golden score. Tasoev was placed under pressure on several occasions but after one final attack from Puumalainen lacked preparation, he countered with te-waza to drive his opponent to the mat for ippon.<\/p>\n

The two men exchanged a few words after the contest, in a moment that showed the respect shared between them.<\/p>\n

Inal Tasoev spoke after the +100 kg final,\u201dI\u2019ve never been here before, it\u2019s a fantastic city. Winning in the Olympic capital is deeply significant to me. The crowd was amazing and truly energised me as I built up my performance throughout the day. Visiting Lausanne was a childhood dream since its mountains remind me of home. Everything lived up to my expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tBronze medal contest, Guram Tushishvili (GEO) vs Magomedomar Magomedomarov (UAE).\n\t\t<\/p>\n

The two bronze medal contests brought together four powerful heavyweights. Guram Tushishvili of Georgia, Olympic silver medallist in Tokyo and 2018 world champion, faced Magomedomar Magomedov of the United Arab Emirates. Tamerlan Bashaev of Russia, Olympic bronze medallist in Tokyo, then met Japan\u2019s Kanta Nakano for the remaining place on the podium.<\/p>\n

It took Tushishvili only a little more than a minute to throw Magomedov with a powerful and unstoppable koshi-waza. The Georgian heavyweight returned to an international podium for the ninth time at grand slam level. The second bronze medal went to Nakano, who delivered a tactically controlled victory over Bashaev.<\/p>\n
