Alteogen has signed a subcutaneous injection (SC) formulation technology contract worth up to 4.4 trillion won with global pharmaceutical company Novartis. Novartis has secured the right to develop multiple biopharmaceuticals into subcutaneous injectable formulations using Alteogen’s “ALT-B4.”<\/p>\n

Alteogen announced on the 2nd that it has signed an exclusive option and license agreement with Novartis for the Hybrozyme platform-based ALT-B4.<\/p>\n

The contract is worth up to $3.223 billion (about KRW 4.4165 trillion). The specific amount of down payment, option exercise, and development and commercialization milestones was not disclosed in accordance with the confidentiality obligation between the two companies. If products with ALT-B4 are commercialized in the future, a certain percentage of net sales will be received as royalties.<\/p>\n

Under the agreement, Novartis will apply ALT-B4 to secure the exclusive right to develop and commercialize multiple biopharmaceuticals into subcutaneous injectable formulations through multiple options. No specific candidates or product names have been disclosed.<\/p>\n

ALT-B4 is a recombinant human hyaluronidase developed by Alteogen. It is used to convert biopharmaceuticals administered in an intravenous (IV) manner to a subcutaneous injection method. It temporarily decomposes hyaluronic acid, a major component of the extracellular matrix under the skin, helping the high-dose biopharmaceuticals administered together to spread and absorb quickly.<\/p>\n

It has the advantage of increasing patient convenience by being able to administer a treatment that requires long-term intravenous injection at a hospital in a short period of time.<\/p>\n

In particular, it is notable that Novartis has contracted to apply ALT-B4 to multiple biopharmaceuticals rather than one product. Prior to signing the contract, Novartis reportedly evaluated whether ALT-B4 could be applied to various modalities to convert them into subcutaneous injectable formulations.<\/p>\n

With the deal, Alteogen signed its fourth ALT-B4 licensing agreement this year, speeding up the global expansion of its Hibrozyme platform. Analysts say that it is expanding its business area to platform technology that can be applied to various products of global pharmaceutical companies, as well as transferring technology for individual medicines.<\/p>\n

However, the contract size of KRW 4.4165 trillion will not be definitively introduced. This contract is a conditional contract based on the permission of a drug regulator, and the actual amount received may vary depending on whether options are exercised or whether clinical trials, item permits, and commercialization are successful. The contract may be terminated if research and development is suspended or product approval fails.<\/p>\n
