Sept 2 (Reuters) – South Korea’s Alteogen said on Wednesday it has signed a deal \u200cwith Novartis worth up to $3.22 billion, giving \u200cthe Swiss drugmaker access to its technology to make injectable \u200bversions of intravenous drugs. <\/p>\n

\u2022 Drugmakers are increasingly developing under-the-skin versions of medicines traditionally delivered through IV infusions due to their convenience. <\/p>\n
\u2022 \u200cThe licensing agreement \u2060gives Novartis multiple options to gain exclusive rights for Alteogen’s Hybrozyme technology using \u2060the company’s ALT-B4 enzyme, also known as berahyaluronidase alfa. <\/p>\n
\u2022 ALT-B4 works by temporarily breaking down hyaluronan, \u200ba natural \u200bsubstance found in the \u200bbody’s tissue, allowing medicines \u200cto spread and be absorbed more quickly when injected under the skin. <\/p>\n
\u2022 Alteogen said it would be eligible to receive up to $3.22 billion if Novartis exercises all options and all development \u200cand commercial milestones are achieved. \u200bThe figure includes option exercise \u200bfees, milestone payments \u200band royalties on future product sales. <\/p>\n
